Niman ranch started in the early 1970’s on a cattle ranch in Bolinas, just north of San Francisco. In 1995, they began raising hogs, with a partner in the midwest based in Iowa. Their similar animal welfare practices, and sustainable farming techniques brought them together and allowed Niman Ranch to offer many more protein options.
Today, Niman Ranch supports over 740 family farmer and ranchers – the largest network of family farmers nationwide. Many of their farmers are second or third generation, and have a great deal of experience and years worth of practice and technique.
All of their meats are raised humanely and must follow strict protocols. Their livestock are only raised outside or in deeply bedded pens, and never in cages or crates. They are not given any hormones or antibiotics and are given a 100% vegetarian diet.
