March-April 2021 Round Up at the Register Recipient
Recliam Lives. Repurpose Land. Reimagine Community.
ALMA’s mission is to reclaim lives of the formerly incarcerated, re-purpose underutilized land into productive urban farms, and re-imagine disenfranchised communities as a source of transformation.
ALMA has offered fresh food to 4,800 families through its on-site Farm Stand as well as the Farmer’s Market in the City of Compton. Since the pandemic ALMA provides curbside pickup of 250 free grocery kits on a biweekly basis. In 2020, ALMA distributed more than 175,000 pounds of fresh food and drinks to over 5,000 families. Donated funds will be used to help ALMA reopen its Farm Stand in Compton & launch a second stand in San Pedro by early summer.
The goal for the Farm Stand model is a comprehensive framework to provide a venue for community members to heal- a place that provides affordable produce, jobs, and educational opportunities.
