Q: What made you apply for a job at the Co-opportunity Market? Tell us a little bit of your experience getting hired and what your first few days/months were like.
A. A friend of mine that worked for Vons quit and got a job at Co-opportunity Market. He told me that the Co-op was a good place to work and that they were hiring. I interviewed with three Co-op employees from upper management. I was nervous at first but when I found out that one of them had been in the grocery business as long as I had, I felt more relaxed and the interview went well. My first few days were great. I had Co-op employees coming up to me and telling me that I would like it here and explain to me about the benefits and perks that the Co-op had to offer.
Q. In the time that you have worked at the Co-op, what are some of the things that have remained the same? And what are the things that have changed the most?
A. That it is member-owned and that it sells organic, natural, and vegan food. Management is always changing but this group of management is the best one yet. Sales have increased so that must hold some value.
Q. Can you share a couple of your fondest memories of working at the Co-op over the years?
A. Seeing my sister and her husband shopping here at the Co-op—I had not seen them in about eight years. Another fond memory was my promotion to Produce Shift Lead.
Q. What do you like most about your work at the Co-op?
A. The atmosphere is friendly among both employees and customers. It’s not just the employees that make you feel welcome, the customers make you feel welcome as well.
Q. How do you spend your time when you are not working at the Co-op?
I work at Vons during the mornings and Co-opportunity Market during the evenings. On my days off, I like to play golf with my friends and family.
