Board Member
Marya Dosti brings a distinctive combination of creativity, leadership, and deep community commitment to the Co-opportunity Market Board. She began her career training in French cuisine at renowned Los Angeles restaurants as an apprentice, then a cook, pastry chef, and restaurant manager, while simultaneously working for notable U.S. and Japanese magazines and cookbooks as a food stylist, coordinator, and recipe developer. This foundation in high-pressure environments honed her ability to translate vision into results— a skill that has served her throughout her career. A constant creator, Marya still experiments with healthy bread and cookie recipes, much to the delight of friends and family who eagerly volunteer as taste testers.
Marya later operated her own interior design firm, collaborating with architects on international projects and managing complex budgets and diverse teams. She earned awards for teamwork and customer service during her time with the City of Santa Monica’s code compliance department. Over twelve years on nonprofit boards—including Partners in Malawi and the International Committee of the LA Philharmonic—she developed expertise in governance, strategic planning, and fundraising. Whether organizing concerts or solving logistical challenges, Marya is known for her calm, solution-focused approach.
A Co-opportunity Market member-owner since 2018 and loyal customer since the 1990s, Marya believes deeply in providing healthy, organic, and accessible food for all. She sees the Co-op as a vital gathering place that strengthens community bonds. With her background in food, design, and nonprofit leadership, Marya is honored to serve on the advisory board, supporting policy adherence and community outreach initiatives. When not working or volunteering, she’s swimming, dancing, practicing yoga, or walking by the ocean—inspired by nature and the power of community.
