Diestel Organic Turkeys

Our turkeys are deep- chilled, meaning they’re held at 26 – 28 degrees. This will cause a crust to form on the surface of the bird, but they will not be frozen. When we receive all turkeys (pre-cooked included) we will hold them in a refrigerated unit at 40 degrees, which will be the temperature of your turkey at pick up time. Keep it chilled in your refrigerator until it’s ready to prepare.

How big of a turkey do you need? We suggest about 1 1/2 pounds for each diner to allow for leftovers.

Diestel Turkeys

Diestel Turkeys is family owned and operated since 1949. The ranch has been in their family for more than 70 years. Everything is produced according to strict animal welfare and environmental standards.

From their commitment to regenerative agriculture, to the fresh pine-wood shavings that line their barns, to the natural and organic cleaners they use, to the generous spaces they give to the birds to roam, to pioneering innovative new processes, they make only choices they’d be proud to talk about—like deciding to become one of the first turkey producers to earn a Global Animal Partnership Step 5 rating.

Thanksgiving Turkey FAQs

  • Are your turkeys frozen?

No, fresh turkeys will be hard on the bottom due to the blasting of cold air done at the plant to keep the turkeys at a low temperature for shipping and to keep them fresh. They are not frozen. When we receive all turkeys (pre-cooked included) we will hold them in a refrigerated unit at 40 degrees, which will be the temperature of your turkey at pick up time.

  • Do you have cooking instructions?

Yes! Click here to view our Holiday Guide. There you will find detailed instructions for prepping and cooking your turkey.

  • How should I handle my turkey once it is picked up?

Ideally, you will pick up the turkey and allow it to defrost in the refrigerator. Two-three days of defrosting is the optimal time frame for allowing the thin crust to dissolve, depending on the weight of the bird. If you are unable to defrost the turkey in the refrigerator, you can also place it in an ice chest with cold water or brine. Finally, it’s recommended to remove the turkey from the refrigerator and allow it to sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes to remove the chill from the bird prior to cooking.

  • When can I pick up my turkey?

Our pickup day starts Friday, November 18.

Store hours are 7 am – 10 pm.

We will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 7 am – 2 pm.
